Defence Medical Welfare Service is an independent charity providing medical welfare to those who have, and continue to, operate on the frontline.
DMWS is embedded within NHS Boards across Scotland, providing critical support at the bedside for Armed Forces patients (serving, reservists, veterans and their families).
We are proud to work in partnership with:
- NHS Fife
- NHS Lanarkshire
- NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde
- NHS Lothian
- NHS Scottish Borders
Our services are recognised as an important part of the healthcare journey, which is why NHS Boards work with us in partnership and are a major source of direct funding. This special relationship places DMWS welfare officers directly into hospital settings, right where we are needed, ready to step in to support those who have served when they need us most.
Patient Story – DMWS in Partnership with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde
Collaboration
We work with a range of statutory and third sector partners across Scotland to support the Armed Forces Community. We are very grateful for the support and funding which makes this possible. This includes:
- Unforgotten Forces – in partnership with Age Scotland and the Scottish Government.
- Scottish Veteran Wellbeing Alliance – funded by The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust through VPPP and led by NHS Lothian in partnership with Fares 4 Free.
- Veterans Housing Scotland – funded by The Armed Forces Covenant Fund, we are working together to support veterans to find and stay in safe housing.
These groups have created efficient and effective cross-partner referrals to enable access to the right support, at the right time, in the right place.
