NRS is a rapid response phone based welfare service available to:

  • Armed Forces Community (serving, reservists, veterans)
  • NHS staff
  • The Merchant Navy
  • Families/carers

NRS also allows us to help people receiving treatment in an NHS Trust where there is no DMWS welfare officer in residence.

If you need support contact our National Response Service on 0800 999 3697 or referrals@dmws.org.uk (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm).

How do we help via NRS?

DMWS welfare officers identify and resolve welfare, wellbeing, and social care needs via the telephone.

The professional and medical welfare telephone service provides:

  • Emotional and practical support to the Armed Forces community, frontline staff and the Merchant Navy when they are on a health care pathway, receiving treatment in hospital, community based health care or at home.
  • An individual, their family, carers, and health and social care partners, help to find solutions and provide onward supported referrals to other organisations for services.
  • A reduction in delayed transfer of care (Dtoc), a reduction in frequent attendance at A&E, enables independent living, reduces social isolation, improves wellbeing, and provides a coordinated, holistic approach to accessing the right support, in the right place, at the right time,
