DMWS awarded Veterans’ Places, Pathways & People Programme by The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust in both the Midlands and North East and Yorkshire - DMWS
DMWS are extremely proud to have been awarded a significant grant from The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust through the VPPP programme V2 to run two consultation phases in the Midlands region and Northeast and Yorkshire region. These consultations will result in a Regional Strategic Plan.
Throughout this phase, we will invest time and resources to further understand the issues and needs of veterans and their families and carers and the pathways to support. We will also focus on sustainability and long-term legacy, building on the work done so far.
Collaboration will continue to be vitally important, and we will run various events and forums to listen to veterans and their families and carers about their concerns, needs and experience of accessing support. We will work with many partners from the third sector and statutory sector to shape future solutions to provide the help and support needed.
Abby Dryden, Chief Executive at DMWS, says “DMWS are very grateful to the AFCFT and the Government for making this investment to support those who have served and their families and carers. We are immensely proud to have been chosen to lead two regional areas. We will work together with veterans and their families and carers to listen to their needs and across sectors to learn, inform and co-produce services which are accessible and effective. It is a fantastic opportunity.”
Thank you to The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust for making this possible.

About Defence Medical Welfare Service (DMWS)
Defence Medical Welfare Service (DMWS) is an independent charity providing medical welfare to those who have, and continue to, operate on the frontline. We place trained professional welfare officers in locations throughout the UK and Cyprus to deliver much-needed additional support for those who are on the clinical pathway. DMWS is committed to providing the highest level of welfare support to those in need, promoting their physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.
Whether it is a new or pre-existing issue, our service is for anyone undergoing treatment for a health-related issue. By providing support in a range of settings, our staff are committed to promoting and preserving the health and wellbeing of those who have dedicated their lives to serving our communities. In addition, they are committed to enabling them to reach their full potential. This can speed up discharge from hospital, help patients recover more quickly, and reduce the likelihood of readmission or the need for onward referral.
DMWS has a long and proud history of supporting the military in times of need, offering expert help and advice to those affected by health-related issues. Through its comprehensive services and outstanding dedication, DMWS has become an integral part of the armed forces community, offering invaluable support to the armed forces community at their critical time of need.
