DMWS were awarded £5000 funding from Norfolk Community Foundation through the Connecting Older People Fund. This funding will support a pilot project in Norfolk where our welfare team will provide welfare support to elderly people with a military connection who are not admitted to hospital following an ambulance visit.

Our fantastic team will spend time assessing the wellbeing of elderly people to ensure they don’t fall through the cracks. This project will reduce the social isolation, poor living conditions, cost of living worries, undiagnosed mental health illnesses, and more.

DMWS are an organisation dedicated to supporting the Armed Forces Community (veterans, serving and reservists). We provide welfare services to those in their time of need, and our mission is to provide high-quality medical welfare services to those who serve the nation and community when they are in the patient care pathway.

Claire Cullens, Chief Executive of Norfolk Community Foundation, said: ‘Norfolk Community Foundation is delighted to support this much needed project that will make a real difference in the community. We wish them every success with their work.’

Paul Gaffney, CEO of Defence Medical Welfare Service, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this funding from Norfolk Community Foundation which will help us support veterans who are not admitted to hospital but need support at home to prevent future reliance on emergency services. This support will make a real difference”

About DMWS

Defence Medical Welfare Service (DMWS) is an independent charity providing medical welfare to those who have, and continue to, operate on the frontline. We place trained professional welfare officers in locations throughout the UK and Cyprus to deliver much-needed additional support for those who are on the clinical pathway. DMWS is committed to providing the highest level of welfare support to those in need, promoting their physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.

Whether it is a new or pre-existing issue, our service is for anyone undergoing treatment for a health-related issue. By providing support in a range of settings, our staff are committed to promoting and preserving the health and wellbeing of those who have dedicated their lives to serving our communities. In addition, they are committed to enabling them to reach their full potential. This can speed up discharge from hospital, help patients recover more quickly, and reduce the likelihood of readmission or the need for onward referral.

DMWS has a long and proud history of supporting the military in times of need, offering expert help and advice to those affected by health-related issues. Through its comprehensive services and outstanding dedication, DMWS has become an integral part of the armed forces community, offering invaluable support to the armed forces community at their critical time of need.
