DMWS Staff Receive Awards from HM The Queen - DMWS
DMWS are delighted to announce that our Patron, Lt Gen Gordon Messenger has received a top honour in the Queens Birthday Honours List this year.
Lt Gen Messenger has been appointed a Companion in the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath.
The Order of the Bath is is a British order of chivalry founded by King George I in 1725. The name derives from a medieval ceremony for creating a knight, which involved bathing (as a symbol of purification) as one of its elements. The knights so created were known as “Knights of the Bath”.
The Order consists of the Sovereign (HM Queen Elizabeth II) , the Great Master (currently HRH The Prince of Wales), and three Classes of members:
- Knight Grand Cross (KGC) or Dame Grand Cross (GCB)
- Knight Commander (KCB) or Dame Commander (DCB)
- Companion (CB) or (DB)
Lt Gen Messnger has had a distinguished Military career including an appointment as Deputy Chief of Defence Staff (Military Strategy & Operations) in the MOD.
In addition, DMWS Trustee and Red Cross Head of Volunteering Maryanne Burton, has been awarded The British Red Cross Queens Badge of Honour, which was presented to her by HRH Princess Alexandra at a private investiture on Friday 11th June. The Queens Badge of Honour is an award given to people who show exceptional service to the British Red Cross. The award is accompanied by a certificate, which is signed by The President. The award is limited to only thirty holders at any one time
Also honoured in the years Birthday Honours List is Mark Asterita, Director of Fundraising for The Red Cross, who has been awarded an OBE.
The Red Cross are one of DMWS’s parent charities and we are all delighted that Mark and Maryanne have been recognised for their hard work and dedication to The Red Cross.
