The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise by the nation that those who serve/have served and their families will not be disadvantaged and be treated fairly. The Covenant is now enshrined in law.
In January 2014, the Defence Medical Welfare Service (DMWS) signed up to the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant to formally pledge our support to those who serve.
Employer Recognition Scheme
The Ministry of Defence introduced the Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) to award those organisations who provide exceptional support to the Armed Forces Community and the defence.
DMWS are proud to have received the prestigious ERS Gold Award from the Ministry of Defence in recognition of the support we offer for our Armed Forces staff:
- DMWS supports service veterans, spouses of serving members, and WIS military personnel seeking employment.
- We also offer support to existing employees undertaking Reserve service. We offer up to 10 days paid leave for annual training and cadet instructors with up to 10 days paid leave with the approval of the line manager.
We have also supported NHS Trusts to achieve their ERS Award. Our welfare services based with NHS Trusts enhance understanding and appreciation of the Armed Forces is proven to reduce conflict and lead to better service provision and outcomes.
